Azerbaijan to put into operation salt production plant

In order to ensure iodized salt for the Azerbaijani population, a plant will be built in the Masazir settlement on the Absheron peninsula. Its commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2010.

 

Capacity of the plant will total 60,000 tons of salt per annum. Investments in the project will make AZN 12 million.

 

Charter capital of the Azerbaijan Salt totals AZN 7.4 million.The Azersun Holding is the salt factory's key shareholder with share of 75% (AZN 5.6 million) and the Azerbaijani Investment Company (AIC) owns 25% stake (AZN 1.9 million).

 

Initially capacity of the plant is planned on the level of 20,000 tons. Construction of the Azerbaijan Salt in Masazir should have started in 2007, but began a year later. Original cost of the project was estimated at AZN 10 million.

 

Inova Turkish company carries out construction work. Salt will be supplied from Masazir field in Azerbaijan and a field, located in Turkmenistan.

 

As a result of implementation of this project Azerbaijan will obtain an opportunity to export salt.
